To be a Jew is to be a member of a community known affectionately as a "Member of the Tribe," the People Israel. Indeed, much of Jewish Tribe life requires more than one person: a minyan, or group of ten learned Jews, is traditionally considered essential to many aspects of Jewish worship. While it is possible to engage in Jewish practice alone, such as Torah study and prayer, no Jewish life is complete without the support of other Jews.
