Actively Engaging with the Jewish Tribe

To be a Jew is to be a member of a community known affectionately as a "Member of the Tribe," the People Israel. Indeed, much of Jewish Tribe life requires more than one person: a minyan, or group of ten learned Jews, is traditionally considered essential to many aspects of Jewish worship. While it is possible to engage in Jewish practice alone, such as Torah study and prayer, no Jewish life is complete without the support of other Jews.

Locate a Community

Tribe 12 is all about introducing people in their twenties and thirties to Jewish life and community. We have so many ways to connect, and guess what? If we don't have what you're looking for, we'll use our larger network in Philadelphia's Jewish community to help you find it.

Discover Your Way

The Tribe 12 Fellowship is a leadership experience for people who are committed to personal growth, community enrichment, and making Judaism their own. Fellows will use the tangible skills they gain to design their own capstone project, which could be a new or existing business, nonprofit, community, or anything in between.

Contrary to popular belief, it is often in the absence of a Jewish community that we realize how valuable such a community can be. Isolation forces you to be aware of your Judaism, to be on the lookout for Jews, and to be creative in your approach to connecting with your People. It leads you to meet Jews you might not have met otherwise, to attend services you might not have attended otherwise, and to sometimes experience your Judaism in an uncomfortable way.

Being a Jew in a place where Jews are typically absent creates an instant connection between Jews who happen to meet, as well as a welcome to Jews passing through. It reconnects you to a shared history, worldview, and struggle. It serves as a reminder of your Jewish People's membership in a larger community.

Small groups, strong bonds

Tribe Young Adults in Tribe 12 are niche communities formed around a shared interest or identity. Our Tribes are constantly evolving to meet the changing needs and desires of the young professionals we serve. If a Tribe is no longer needed or working, it will sunset or close. We also have Tribes that have been active for a long time.

Professionals from the Jewish Community

We are a Tribe of locals in their 20s and 30s who work professionally in the Jewish community during the day (and often at night). We work with Federations, Hillels, Social Justice Organizations, and other organizations. We meet for brunch or happy hour every 4-6 weeks at different in-person locations to build relationships! Please join us if you are a Jewish Professional!

Couples

Do you and your significant other want to meet other Jewish couples in their twenties and thirties? Consider Shabbat dinners, game nights, Philly excursions, and more. Couples Tribe is the ideal place to do so in a relaxed and fun atmosphere!

Comedy

Have you always wanted to write comedy but had no idea where to begin? Come and join us. Our group will meet from January to April in order to prepare for a Sketch Comedy performance in May. We will warm up with improved games and brainstorm character/scene ideas. Then we'll spend most of our time together writing sketches and sharing jokes and ideas. Each month will begin with a piece of Jewish wisdom that will inspire us to live our Jewish values through community, connection, and collaboration. Everyone will write and brainstorm, and those who wish to will assist in the performance of the sketches in May! Attend as many sessions as you can, but especially the last two if you want to be a part of the show.

We're here to help you find the Jewish Tribe community you're looking for. If we don't have what you're looking for, we'll assist you in finding it, and if it doesn't exist, we'll assist you in creating it.
